Learn Luma Dream Machine
Ray2 video and Photon images in one workspace, with Boards, keyframes, loops, Extend and Modify Video. Dreamy motion made controllable.
What Luma Dream Machine is good at
- Keyframed image-to-video with start and end frames
- Seamless loops and extensions
- Modify Video: restyle existing footage while keeping its motion
- Boards for collecting references and iterations
Quickstart
- Work in a BoardCollect references and generations per project so iterations stay together.
- Generate the still with Photon, then animateA good start frame is most of the result. Photon is Luma's image model and sits in the same interface.
- Set keyframesStart frame alone for open motion; start and end for a controlled move or a loop.
- Extend rather than regenerateUse Extend to continue a clip you like instead of rolling the dice again.
Settings cheat-sheet
| Setting | What it does | Start with |
|---|---|---|
| Model | Ray2 or a Ray2 Flash variant | Flash for drafts |
| Keyframes | Start, end or both | Start only for open motion |
| Loop | Last frame returns to the first | On for ambient clips |
| Duration | Around 5 s or 9 to 10 s | Shortest |
| Aspect / Reframe | Ratio, or change it after the fact | Match the delivery |
| Modify strength | How close Modify stays to the source | Medium, then adjust |

The five most-asked questions
What is Ray2?
Ray2 is Luma's video model, with faster Flash variants for drafts. It produces natural motion and coherent physics from text or from keyframe images.
How do keyframes work in Dream Machine?
You can set a start frame, an end frame or both. The model animates between them, which is how you make controlled reveals and seamless loops.
What does Modify Video do?
Modify Video restyles or changes an existing clip while preserving its motion, with controls for how closely it should stick to the source. It suits look changes and set swaps on footage you already have.
Can I make a looping video?
Yes, use the Loop option so the last frame flows back into the first. Loops work best with gentle, continuous motion rather than a single event.
What resolution and length does Luma offer?
Clips are a few seconds long per generation (around 5 and 9 to 10 seconds depending on model), at 720p or 1080p with upscale options. Check the current plan page for limits.
