Midjourney Sticker Prompts: Die-Cut Designs with White Borders

Short answer

For Midjourney stickers, start with "die-cut sticker", describe one subject in flat colours with a thick white border on a plain contrasting background, then add --no background clutter, shadow, text. Remove the background in an editor afterwards, because Midjourney does not export transparency.

Sticker prompts work when you describe the finished object: one character or icon, flat colours, a thick white die-cut border and a plain background. Then use --no to strip out the scenery, shadows and clutter Midjourney likes to add. The cleaner the background, the easier the cut line.

The Midjourney sticker prompt formula

Use this order: sticker type + single subject + art style + colour palette + border + background + parameters.

Example: die-cut sticker, a happy avocado wearing sunglasses, kawaii cartoon style, flat colours, bold black outline, thick white border, plain light grey background --ar 1:1 --no background clutter, shadow, text

PartWhy it mattersWords to try
Sticker typeTells Midjourney the image is an object, not a scenedie-cut sticker, vinyl sticker, sticker sheet, holographic sticker
Single subjectOne shape means one clean cut linea single cactus, one smiling cloud
Art styleSets line weight and shape languagekawaii, flat vector, retro cartoon, doodle, pixel art
ColoursFlat fills print cleanly and trace wellflat colours, limited palette, pastel, bold primaries
BorderCreates the classic die-cut edgethick white border, white outline around the shape

Midjourney does not export transparent backgrounds. A plain, contrasting background (light grey works well against a white border) lets you remove it in one click in most image editors.

Settings that help stickers

  • --no is your main tool. Try --no background clutter, shadow, text, scenery, gradient. Add only what keeps sneaking in; a long list can have side effects.
  • --ar 1:1 suits single stickers. Wider ratios work for sheets or long subjects.
  • Lower --stylize, for example --s 50, keeps shapes simple and flat. High values add texture and lighting that look less like printed vinyl.
  • --niji is worth trying for kawaii and anime-style characters.
  • --sref with one code across a whole pack keeps every sticker looking like one set.

Tips and common mistakes

  1. Prompting a scene. "A fox in a forest" gives you a forest. "Die-cut sticker of a fox" gives you a fox. Lead with the sticker type.
  2. White border on a white background. The border disappears and the cut line becomes guesswork. Use a light grey or coloured background.
  3. Expecting slogans to render. Midjourney is unreliable with exact text. Add words in a design tool after removing the background.
  4. Printing straight from the grid. Upscale first, remove the background, then check the outline at full size. For professional die-cut printing, many printers want a separate cut path, which you create in a design tool.
  5. Using characters you do not own. Do not prompt for trademarked characters or logos, especially if you plan to sell. Keep designs original.
  6. Too many colours. Flat, limited palettes look better as vinyl and are easier to vectorise if you need crisp edges.
