How to organise your Midjourney prompts
Why prompts get lost
Midjourney keeps a history of your jobs, but over hundreds of generations it becomes a long feed sorted by time. When a client comes back for "the same look as before", you end up scrolling, or rebuilding the prompt from memory and never quite matching it.
A system that works
- Save at creation, not later. If saving is a separate step, it won’t happen on a busy day.
- Organise by project. One folder per client, campaign or series. Dates are a poor index for creative work.
- Keep the full prompt. Include every parameter and style code. The
--ar,--sand--srefvalues are often what made it work. - Name variations clearly. Man in a business suit, … green suit, … red suit reads better than v2_final_final.
- Make it searchable. A library you can’t search is a library you won’t use.
- Keep styles separate. Store reusable looks (style codes) in their own collection so they can be mixed with any subject.
Options compared
| Method | Good for | Drawback |
|---|---|---|
| Midjourney job history | Finding recent work | Sorted by time, not by project |
| Notes app or spreadsheet | Free and flexible | Manual copy-paste; easy to forget |
| Dreamdrive | Automatic capture of every prompt with its picture, model and settings, on Midjourney and the other platforms you connect, searchable by prompt, project or date | Needs desktop Chrome; the full history is part of Pro (Free keeps the last 90 days) |
Doing this with Dreamdrive
Dreamdrive saves every prompt you run automatically, with its picture, model and settings, into the project you choose, so you can search your Library for it later, copy it with Copy prompt or drag the picture into another tool.
